Maple Run Emporium

Maple Run Emporium
49 Market Street
Potsdam, New York 13676
Open: Monday to Sunday

On a recent little road trip to Potsdam, NY we discovered a quite unique and spacious gourmet shop specializing in all that is Maple! You’ve read right, maple this, maple that, maple everything!

When you walk-in to the shop your firstly impressed with the flow and the to die for maple floors. Cluttered is not a word that exist in this maple heaven, there are rows of what I call wired bakers racks, where the products are neatly and organically placed.

This best describes what they do:
(taken from the website)

Maple Run Emporium features an eclectic mix of gourmet and artisan foods, kitchenware, gifts, home furnishings, bath and beauty care, scented accessories, and grilling essentials – with an emphasis on maple. The shop specializes in maple products made by U.S. maple producers and internationally renowned makers of kitchen and pantry utensils,  furnishings, and cookware.

One really coolk thing I found on their website is a section dedicated to maple recipes! Check this out, these are easy to make.

This is something you don’t see every day, beauty products with Maple in them! You will find a wide selection of soaps, creams, scrubs and more (of course with maple).

I can’t wait to go back to this store, it was such a pleasure to visit (and the care to details on wrapping our purchases in orange tissue paper and brown craft bag was perfect).

Love and Maple…

2011 Ottawa Wine & Food Festival

November 9 – 10, 2011
25th Anniversary
Ottawa Convention Centre

Yes, my culinary and wine aficionados, the 2011 Ottawa Wine & Food Festival is coming back in November. The website does not include much information… but we gathered some information from the exibitor package:

25 YEARS IN THE MAKING! The Ottawa Wine & Food Show will this year move to the spectacular new Ottawa Convention Centre. This exciting new facility replaces the Ottawa Congress Centre which was home to the Show for twenty-two years. Now with twice the space, this state of-the-art building in the heart of downtown is the perfect venue for the rebirth of the Show as the Ottawa Wine & Food Festival. This 5-day celebration will take the wine and food experience that Ottawa has come to love over the past 25 years to a whole new level. And it will provide exhibitors and sponsors with an expanded format and enriched programming in a spectacular new venue that will comfortably accommodate larger Ottawa audiences that have clearly demonstrated they’re ready for more.

• The Festival will kick off on a Wednesday and continue through Sunday, with a greatly expanded line up of tasting events and learning opportunities.
• The 3-Day Consumer & Trade Show will remain the cornerstone of the new Festival.
• New Programming will include an expanded Tutored Tastings series, People’s Choice Award , Local Farm tours, Guest Sommeliers and Chefs, and more.

Don’t forget to subcribe for updates.

The Barely Blue

So, I’ve never been a fan of Blue Cheese… until I discovered: Barely Blue!

This most amazing cheese is made by the folks at Glengarry Fine Cheese in Lancaster, Ontario.

This cheese is a delicately veined surface ripened blue cheese which melts in your mouth. The rind is mottled grey in colour, and the paste is supple and smooth a cheese that is lovely to eat on its own or to accompany with fruit or nuts on a cheese plate. Available in 1.5 kg wheels or wedges, packed in French paper or foil. Aged 2 month.
